Understanding Children’s Executive Functioning Skills

Parenting Workshop Presented by Duvall Cooperative Preschool

Understanding Children’s Executive Functioning Skills
Wednesday, March 15, 6:30-8:00 pm
Duvall Cooperative Preschool
26512 NE Stella St
Duvall, WA 98019

What exactly do we mean by “Executive Functioning”? Essentially, Executive Functioning skills are those mental skills that help us get things done. Problems with executive functioning are often noticed when children start school.
You will gain fascinating insight into these skills which can be predictors of school readiness and success. Like all skills, executive functioning can be strengthened. There are strategies you can use at home to improve organization, working memory and flexible thinking. With your help and outside support, if needed, your child can learn ways to manage and work around issues with these skills.

Taught by Encompass Lead Preschool Teacher, Nikki Slaght

PRIDE Skills Speaker Sandra Sinanan

This workshop is most appropriate for parents and caregivers of children 2 to 8 years old. You will gain insight and skills around how to enjoy time with your child without those battles you may sometimes experience. How? By engaging in 5 minutes of play every day based on P.R.I.D.E. (Praise, Reflect, Imitate, Describe and Enthusiasm) skills, which are incorporated into a special play experience each day. In just 5 minutes a day of this type of play, your child will have a better connection with you, a higher sense of control and, as an added benefit, increased compliance. This is truly positive parenting skills!
