Happy Holidays!

Will you look at all that snow? Hope everyone is safe and warm at home and if you truly need to be on the road, drive safe and make sure you have all the necessities before you hit the road!

For next year’s Save the Dates, please refer to your parent leaders Andrea and Sandy. Our Google calendar (which we will be updating shortly) will also tell you what you need to know.

On behalf of the Board and the preschool, I would like to wish all DCP families a safe and happy Winter Break! See you January 5th!

And we’re off!

This post is long due but better late than never!

DCP is off to a great start, thanks to our teachers Ms. Christine and Ms. Tara. We met each other at the school on our Parent Orientation Night on Sept 11, and then each had our Parent Ed evenings on Sept 18 and 22. We talked paperwork, station duties, risk management, committees and in summary, a great DCP 101 for both returning and new parents.

The also more amazing news is that we are full up (we are 13 in Sprouts and 12 in Saplings)!

This came as a surprise to Sara and I (since we had done very little advertising) – the best kind of surprise, and all of it is thanks again to our wonderful teachers who’ve put in so much work to set up and build the school during the summer, and to our amazing board: Sara, our president, Susan our treasurer, Amber our brand new secretary (AND a new parent – thanks for stepping up, Amber!), Meriaten, our super registrar who’s also worked very hard over the summer to get us our full classes; and last but not least, our parent leaders Andrea (Sprouts) and Sandy (Saplings).

Of course, a big chunk of this thanks go to the parents, new and returning, for the confidence you have shown in us. We could not have asked for a better set of Year Two parents for the co-op.

We do have waiting lists going for both classes if parents in Duvall and our neighboring towns are interested in our program. Please email Meriaten (meriaten [at] gmail.com or call her at 425 420 7063) to get on them.

Here’s to a fabulous second year of learning and growing at DCP!

Yours,
Jennifer Tai, VP

Saplings class: Change of location and date for parent ed!

Hi parents of Saplings class

Please be informed that we have changed September’s parent ed to Sept 22 (Monday) and relocated it to our preschool at the Duvall Community Center (previously it was Sept 18 at the Rose Room). Time: 7 – 9pm.

Sprouts class parent ed remains unchanged at your Parent Leader’s house on Sept 18 from 7 – 9pm.

Please refer to our Google calendar (top left corner of the content portion of this blog) for updates and changes or subscribe to our blog via RSS or email.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused and have a great weekend!

Welcome back, DCP parents and little friends!

Firstly, on behalf of our new board, allow me thank the parents and teachers who have worked so hard all summer for our second year of preschool. Duvall Cooperative Preschool is truly the wonderful result of much hard work and dedication that our board and staff have put in these last few months.  We are very excited once again to open our doors to serve our little town as its first and only community-driven, non-profit cooperative preschool and we hope that with your continuing support, we will be able to thrive in the years to come!

Now on to some school business: SAVE THESE DATES!

  • Sept 3: The board will be moving items from the “White House” to our school. DONE!
  • Sept 4: Saplings Playdate @ Taylor Park 10.30am. This is a casual get-together for parents in our older class. Simple snacks will be provided. DONE!
  • Sept 11: Parent Orientation Night @ DCP (WRECK Center) 7pm. This will be THE most important meeting of the year where we will be going through all the basics you’ll need to know about being a co-op parent at DCP. We will run our Risk Management Training, our Station Duties walkthrough and you will, of course, get to meet our teachers Ms. Christine and Ms. Tara as well as your board. We will also be taking care of other school business such as nominating a secretary, getting all the committees sorted out, making sure you’ve got all your paperwork squared away (kits will be given away) and so on. There will be a meet-and-greet after the training. If you have not paid up your registrations and first month’s tuition, you may do so at this meeting.
  • Sept 18 Sept 22 Monday: Parent Ed @ DCP 7 – 9pm for the Saplings and Sept 18 Thursday at Andrea McKiernan’s house for the Sprouts (please email her if you need an address). Topic: Class-Interactive Parenting in a Co-op Preschool (for both classes). Don’t forget to bring your September tuition checks!
You can access all these dates and more by clicking on our Google calendar. Our school year calendar (in Adobe PDF format) is downloadable for your printing pleasure here. You will need Adobe Acrobat reader here, FOC.

A Farewell, a Welcome

With our first year now over and our second about to begin come September 2008, changes are abound!

Firstly, we are very sad to inform DCP parents that Ms. Ninder, our illustrious and wonderful Multiage class teacher for last year, has decided to leave us. She will be focusing on her family as a stay-at-home mom.

We bid you fare well with heavy hearts, Ninder, but wish you happy trails and all the best in your new endeavor!

To replace Ms. Ninder, we welcome Ms. Tara Orman, a Duvall resident and ex-DCP member parent!

Ms. Tara will be taking over from Ms. Christine as the teacher for the younger Sprouts class, while Ms. Christine will be teaching the older Saplings class.

To read more about our teachers, please click here.

With this, we wish Ms. Tara a hearty welcome!

We’re streamlining our program!

Dear parents and DCP friends,

After two months of trying to get the word out there of our Toddler’s Group, we’ve received a lot of helpful feedback and as a result, the Board has decided to remain with our two existing programs, with a few changes – and some new program names!

For our 2008-2009 school year, DCP’s two successful preschool programs will be renamed “Sprouts” and “Saplings”.

SPROUTS will be similar to our existing two-day, two-hour preschool program for children ages 24 months and above. The only change will e that this will now be a multiage class, accepting children of up to 3.5 years old (approximately 42 months). As with the existing program, participating parents are required to work one day per week, and drop off the other day. Classes will be on Monday and Wednesday mornings, from 9.30am to 11.30am.

SAPLINGS will be similar to our existing multiage three-day, 2.5-hour pre-K program for children ages 3.5 to 5. Parents are required to work one day per week, and may drop their children off the other two days. Classes will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 12.30pm to 3pm.

For more information about fees, please visit our Classes and Fees page here.

Yours,
Jennifer Tan
VP

A big THANK YOU to Lake Washington Toddler Group!

We would like to extend a very grateful THANK YOU to Lake Washington Toddler Group for their second recent donation to us. DCP is benefiting so much from your generosity and our parents thank you!

Why I Opted for Co-op, by Flor Gant

I am a working mom who would never have thought that co-op would work for me.

When I first learned that Duvall Co-operative Preschool was about to open in our community, I was somewhat intrigued and wanted to get to know more about it, so I went to their website.

I liked the idea of the nurturing, play-based environment where the children and their families work and grow together in the classroom and in our small community. I wanted to be involved in a small simple way in my daughter’s early education. I think that being in the classroom with her and the other kids–contributing to their education–is a very satisfying feeling. With the teacher and moms working together, these kids surely are better nurtured with love and guidance.

The co-op has provided all the kid’s moms with a way of building a good and lasting friendship and family support. I am thankful that the opening of DCP came at the right time when I was seriously looking for a preschool for my daughter.
