Registration time is almost here!

Returning families and Alumni can begin registering for the 2012-2013 next week (February 1^st).  To register your child(ren), you will need to complete the Registration Form, Parent Agreement, and pay the registration fee of $130.  We will open registration to New Families starting March 1^st.  If you have questions about registration, please contact our Registrar Mireille Bellemare: dcpreschool@gmail.com   The new 2012-2013 schedule is available on the Paperwork page along with all the other necessary forms.

Open House

A big part of advertising for the school happens at the Open Houses.  The next Open House is scheduled for Thursday, February 9^th, 11am-1pm and 6:30-8pm.  We will have a teacher and board member here to talk about the school and give tours.  We will also be posting flyers around the towns to promote the Open House.  This is a great opportunity for new families to see our wonderful preschool space.

Board Positions Open:

We have many of the board positions filled for next year but need your help to fill the two remaining positions.  We are currently looking for a President and Treasurer.  The position of President could be shared (Co-Presidents) if needed.  Both of these positions are critical to the daily function of the school.  We will also need Parent Leaders for each class.  If you have questions or are interested in any of the position, please contact me.

Read-a-thon  Update:

A huge THANK YOU to all the families of DCP who helped raise over $1,800 for the school!!!  If you haven’t already done so, please make sure to send a thank you to all the family, friends, and neighbors who helped make our Read-a-thon a huge success.

DCP Carnival:

The DCP Carnival will be held on Saturday, April 28^th from 11am-2pm.  This event requires all families to participate, so please reserve the date on your calendar.  The Carnival will be our second fundraiser and will hopefully allow us to hit our fundraising goal of $100 per family.  The Carnival team will be contacting each class to put together a basket for a raffle as well as organize booths and food sales.  The Carnival is designed for preschool aged kids in the Duvall/Carnation Community.

Book sale:

On the date of the Carnival (Saturday, April 28^th), we will be holding a used book sale.  Please tell friends and family that we would LOVE to have them give us their used books – both adult and children’s books.  Books can be brought to school and left in the book sale bin located by the front door.

Deep Clean:

Due to the weather last week, we had to cancel the Deep Clean.  We will be rescheduling the Deep Clean for a later date.  As a parent of DCP, you are required to participate in one Deep Clean per year.  The other Deep Clean takes place in May.

Please be informed that we have changed September’s parent ed to Sept 22 (Monday) and relocated it to our preschool at the Duvall Community Center (previously it was Sept 18 at the Rose Room). Time: 7 – 9pm.

Sprouts class parent ed remains unchanged at your Parent Leader’s house on Sept 18 from 7 – 9pm.

Now on to some school business: SAVE THESE DATES!

• Sept 3: The board will be moving items from the “White House” to our school. DONE!
• Sept 4: Saplings Playdate @ Taylor Park 10.30am. This is a casual get-together for parents in our older class. Simple snacks will be provided. DONE!
• Sept 11: Parent Orientation Night @ DCP (WRECK Center) 7pm. This will be THE most important meeting of the year where we will be going through all the basics you’ll need to know about being a co-op parent at DCP. We will run our Risk Management Training, our Station Duties walkthrough and you will, of course, get to meet our teachers Ms. Christine and Ms. Tara as well as your board. We will also be taking care of other school business such as nominating a secretary, getting all the committees sorted out, making sure you’ve got all your paperwork squared away (kits will be given away) and so on. There will be a meet-and-greet after the training. If you have not paid up your registrations and first month’s tuition, you may do so at this meeting.
• Sept 18 Sept 22 Monday: Parent Ed @ DCP 7 – 9pm for the Saplings and Sept 18 Thursday at Andrea McKiernan‘s house for the Sprouts (please email her if you need an address). Topic: Class-Interactive Parenting in a Co-op Preschool (for both classes). Don’t forget to bring your September tuition checks!

The Duvall Preschool Fair will be held at the Duvall Church on Main Street from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The Woodinville Info Night will be held at the Northshore United Church of Christ from 7pm to 8.30pm.

Firstly, thanks to all of you who made it today, and for all your patience and understanding which goes a long way in making our cooperative a success. We got some great discussions going about a lot of important things tonight, and I believe we have a really good group of parents for our charter year! 

To recap on our meeting for the benefit of those who were not able to join us, I’ve compiled all the salient points so that everyone is in the know of what’s going to be happening in the next week running up to our school opening on Sept 17 2007.

Site status

For those who were not able to make our meeting today, we had announced that the property promised to us by LWTC on Big Rock is going through a permitting issue that will take until Winter to resolve, if that. As this an issue that is being handled now by the city and the college, we as prospective tenants have no control over when the site will be ready. As such, the preschool now has two possible sites:

1. Duvall YMCA WRECK Center, which all of you have seen today. This is the site we prefer to due access, more convenient commute.

2. Stillwater Community Church 4 miles in on Big Rock Road. This is our alternative if the WRECK Center fails to work out.

We will have an answer on this for you by tomorrow evening (Sept 7th), and begin setup next week.

Meetings

These are the upcoming meetings:

Sept 10th Open House for Children of DCP

9.30-10.30am for the Twos class

10.30am-11.30am for the Multiage class

Venue: Rose Room at the Duvall Library. Please use the back entrance as the library will be closed on Monday.

Please bring your September tuition checks to this meeting and your completed Immunization Forms as well as signed Parent Participation Agreements. You can pass them to either Ms. Helen or Ms. Ninder.

Sept 13th Elections and Risk Management Training

7 – 9pm Duvall YMCA WRECK Center (compulsory attendance)

For the Elections, please send in your nominations by email to dcpreschool@gmail.com latest by the Sept 12th. Simply state the name of the parent, the position you want to nominate the person for. Anyone can be a board member. Here are the details of the board positions we will be electing:

President
The President shall be the principal executive officer of the corporation and shall supervise and control all of the business and affairs of the corporation. S/he shall preside at all meetings of the members of the Board of Trustees and s/he shall perform all duties as may be prescribed by the Board of Trustees from time to time; provided, however, that the President shall not vote on issues before the Board of

Trustees except in order to break an existing tie vote. The President will obtain a majority vote from the Board of Trustees before entering into a legal contract on behalf of the Preschool.

Vice President
In the absence of the President or in the event of his or her inability or refusal to act, the Vice President shall perform the duties of President. When so acting shall have all the powers and be subject to all the restrictions upon the President. The Vice President shall also act as the chairperson of the standing committee for Special Events and Fund Raising.

Treasurer
The Treasurer shall keep or cause to be kept full and accurate accounts of the receipts and disbursements of the corporation. S/he shall receive and deposit all money and other valuables of the corporation in the name and to the credit of the corporation in such depository as may be designated by the Board of Trustees. S/he shall disburse or cause to be disbursed the funds of the corporation as directed by the Board. S/he shall render to the corporation, whenever required, accounts of all his/her transactions as Treasurer and of the financial condition of the corporation. S/he shall submit and cause to be transmitted to the Board of Trustees financial statements required by it.

Secretary
The Secretary shall keep all the minutes of the meetings of the members of the Board of Trustees in one or more books provided for that purpose. The secretary shall see that all notices are duly given in accordance with the provisions of the Bylaws as required by law. The secretary is to act as custodian of the corporate records, complete the school inventory every year at the beginning of the school year, plan the refreshment schedule for all board meetings, and in general, perform the entire duties incident to the office of Secretary.

Parent Leaders
A Parent Leader from each class will assist the members as necessary throughout the school year, set up work days, facilitate buddy parents and orient new members in the school activities. The Parent Leader will also serve as a liaison between the class and the Board.

Registrar
The Registration Chairperson will be appointed by the Board in November to serve a term of office starting in January and ending the following February, after helping the incoming Registrar with registration. The Registration Chairperson will discuss the philosophy of the Preschool with prospective members, register all new members and collect registration fees. S/he will check school answering machine for messages. S/he will arrange publicity for the Preschool and implement public relations activities. The registrar must also act as the School Blog Manager, maintaining the preschool’s website. S/he will maintain Preschool class lists, perform quarterly backups and ensure current files exist on the Preschool computer at year-end.

The election will be based on a simple majority.

Apart from electing your Board of Trustees, you will also need to vote on DCP’s set of bylaws and budget. A copy will be sent to you for your kind perusal before the Elections.

Again, please don’t be shy to nominate yourselves. YOU are what makes our Cooperative work!

Sept 20th Parent Education Meeting

I will be finalising committee assignments for the newcomers, as well as work day schedules which will be emailed to everyone by next week. We have had new enrollments coming in these last two weeks which is why there are changes to the work stations (while work days will remain the same).

Interim Registrar

Due to safety checks being conducted at the site by the Dept of Facilities of the Lake Washington Tech College, we will be moving the meeting to the Duvall YMCA WRECK center at 26512 NE Stella Street, 7pm – 9pm.
 
The interim board is working hard to get the school up and ready on time, as well as make sure that it meets the safety standards required by the city and the college.
